Cordoda Corporation Sdn Bhd, an IT outsourcing provider and associate company of local systems integrator Patimas Computers Bhd, expects to rake in revenues of RM50 million by year-end from sales of its flagship product called Enterprise Broadband Network (EBN).
EBN is a business communications network that combines broadband services with value-added network management and application services that Cordoda claims are secure, reliable and flexible.
The company's products and services fall into three categories: multi-service networking access (ATM, frame relay, leased line, X.24 and dial-up services), networking and IT-managed services (managed multi-service WAN Access (SLA optional), firewall services and Internet access) and e-commerce networking and applications (call center, hosted commerce, collaboration, rented applications, Web site content development, software distribution and data recovery services).
According to Cordoda chief operating officer Shane J. Hodge, the company is well on track to meet the RM50 million mark, having garnered over 30 customers, including stockbroking companies, insurance firms, manufacturing companies as well as retail trade organizations. The company declined to reveal customer names, citing non-disclosure agreements which prevented it from doing so.
By outsourcing their IT networking needs to Cordoda, companies can expect to reduce expenditure on the hardware, software and resources to manage the network. Companies can then focus on their core business activities, increase business productivity and ensure the flexibility and scalability to expand.
As to how much customers could expect to pay for Cordoda's products and services, its general manager for technology and operations Nick Goh wouldn't commit to actual pricing, saying "there is no base price to what we sell. It all depends on the combined total package that the customer chooses."
He did add that it would likely cost customers 2 to 2.5 times what they would pay Cordoda, should they build and implement their own networking solution to obtain the same level of security, redundancy and guaranteed levels of service.
Cordoda, Goh said, invested RM45 million to implement EBN which spans across both Peninsular and East Malaysia with 18 nodes making up the entire network connectivity. There is a node in every major town and four within the Central Region itself.
"We buy bulk bandwidth from multiple telcos including Telekom Malaysia, Time Telekom and Maxis, while Internet access is provided through Jaring and TMnet," he said, adding that the company has installed hardware from various vendors such as Sun, Cisco, HP and IBM. "We don't have any exclusive hardware partner. As long as (the equipment) conforms to open standards, we are open to using them."
Goh claimed Cordoda has yet to discover a "real" competitor. "There isn't anyone we know who provides all three areas: connectivity, applications and services, (network) management. There are players in each of these categories but no one who does all three." Among the players he named were Telekom's COINS and Heitech Padu in the connectivity area as well as Pacific Century CyberWorks (PCCW) and DataOne Asia in the data hosting area.
Kuala Lumpur Stock Exchange-listed Patimas Computers holds a majority stake of 40 percent in Cordoda while Merrill Lynch Investments holds 30 percent, Capital Properties Bhd 10 percent and the remaining 20 percent is held by private investors.
